ALCOVA Miami 2024 — Something Last
December 3-8, 2024 | Alcova Miami | Miami River Inn 118 SW South River Dr, Miami, FL
Something Last is a meditative design exhibition that invites visitors to engage with the timeless essence of visual expression through the works of Cindy Hsu Zell, Devin Wilde, Mary Ratcliffe Studio, Jialun Xiong, Vy Voi, and Xiaoyan Wei. Curated by Studio/JIALUN XIONG, this show offers a momentary respite from Miami’s extravagance through subtle, enduring pieces that strip down to the most essential components: shape, dot, line, light, and shadow.
The absence of color in Something Last removes distractions, guiding visitors into an exploration of emotional depth that transcends hue. Each carefully composed sequence of visual repetitions—hypnotic geometric shapes and rhythmic parallel lines found in furnishings, lighting fixtures, tabletops, vases, and wall hangings—builds a visual language that feels both current and timeless.
While Something Last emphasizes purity and simplicity, it introduces a quiet, meditative atmosphere that gently invites viewers to slow down and fully immerse themselves in the subdued, powerful dialogue of the design’s fundamental elements. In this serene space, each subtle detail is elevated, creating an experience that encourages contemplation beyond the exhibition, leaving a lasting sense of tranquility and introspection.
