Vy Voi is a design studio based in New York and Sài Gòn by Steffany Trần, an industrial designer and ceramicist. Focusing on objects, lighting and furniture, Vy Voi’s work connects the dots between historical Vietnamese art and the belief of tenderness in the everyday—expressed into enriching, emotional dialogues.
All works are designed, handmade, and assembled in NY.
Steffany’s work is inspired by the natural world and its fleeting charm of organic occurrences: mushrooms sprouting, moss blanketing bark and sunlight peeking overhead. She aspires to capture these moments of contained comfort, translating them into contemporary forms.
Steffany studied Industrial Design at San Jose State University, defining her love of what we live with and her language of soft, delicate lines. She often references Việt Nam’s rich—yet often overlooked—material heritage, allowing the past to inform the present.
Questioning how art and design “should” be separated, she experiments with the balance of both. Her work is characterized by their warmth and application of multi-layered textures. She shapes every delicate curve by hand, playing with the tensions of material and form. No two pieces are ever exactly alike.
Vy Voi (vee · voy)
Vietnamese people love alliteration—and a good nickname. It’s a form of affection without the “I love you.”
The name Vy Voi comes from an enduring childhood nickname that affectionately fuses “Vy” (her Vietnamese name) and “con voi,” (the Vietnamese word for elephant) together, used to describe her remarkable appetite. Regardless of shape or size, her pieces highlight a signature, delicate, flared opening—reminiscent of an elephant’s trunk.
